The run, walked through

Hotline Money game: one run from the street to the boss

A run has a pre-bet screen, 30 opponents cleared one step at a time, and a boss at the end. Below, one run follows that order.

Hotline Money is a step-based instant game from 100HP, and a separate title from the similarly named games by Spribe, NetEnt and Apollo Games.

A round, beat by beat

Five beats, in the order the game gives them to you.

  1. Beat one: the brief

On the pre-bet screen you choose Easy or Hard and set the stake. Easy shows a maximum of x2031.63 and Hard a maximum of x54515.98.

  2. Beat two: the doors

The field shows two doors, A and B. You pick one and the agent moves. The same choice comes back at every step of the run.

  3. Beat three: the climb

Each cleared step adds one to the opponent counter, which runs from 0/30 to 30/30, and raises the multiplier beside the agent.

  4. Beat four: the exit window

Withdraw is live from the first step. Pressing it ends the round at the multiplier on screen. If you leave it, the next pair of doors appears.

  5. Beat five: the boss

After the thirtieth opponent the run ends with a boss fight. The splash screen lists it as the goal: defeat the boss, collect the prize, save the girl.

The parts that decide a run

Six parts, each described by what it does during a round.

  1. The A or B choice

Two doors at every step. You pick one before the agent moves, and the step then clears or the round ends.

  2. The floor sequence

Thirty opponents in a fixed order, tracked by the counter on the field. On Easy, the first five steps pay x1.04, x1.13, x1.24, x1.36 and x1.49.

  3. The withdraw window

The button is live from step one and pays the multiplier on screen. It is easier to use if you picked a stopping step before the round.

  4. The boss

The fight at the end of the sequence. You only reach it if you passed on Withdraw at every step before it.

  5. Risk mode

Easy or Hard, chosen on the pre-bet screen. Hard shows the higher maximum, x54515.98 against x2031.63 on Easy.

  6. Autobet and turbo

Two toggles beside the stake controls. Autobet runs rounds to a collect step and a round count you set, picking the path at random at each step, and Turbo shortens the pause at each step.

Checking the run after it ends

Hotline Money is Provably Fair, so a finished run can be checked with values the client gives you.

  1. The seal was set before the first door

The outcome of the round was fixed before you chose a path, and the fingerprint of that fix was shown to you at the same moment.

  2. The outcome stayed sealed while you climbed

The doors you picked, the steps you cleared and the moment you withdrew do not alter what was sealed.

  3. The pieces arrive at the close

When the round is finished the client releases what it held back. Run the check and the seal matches the round you played.

What players ask about the run

Questions about the steps, the boss and the Withdraw button.

How does a Hotline Money round begin?
On the pre-bet screen. You choose Easy or Hard and set the stake, then pick door A or door B for the opening step.
What happens when I clear a step?
The opponent counter goes up by one, the multiplier rises, and the next pair of doors appears. You can press Withdraw before choosing.
When can I use withdraw?
From step one of an active round. It ends the round and pays the multiplier shown at that step.
What is the boss for?
It is the goal of the run. A run has 30 opponents, and the boss fight comes after the last of them.
What do Easy and Hard change?
The maximum multiplier and the odds. The pre-bet screen shows x2031.63 for Easy and x54515.98 for Hard, and the rules say the higher risk level offers larger multipliers and a greater chance of defeat. You choose the mode there, before the first step.
Does autobet skip the choices?
Yes. In Auto Play you set a collect step and a number of rounds, and the client picks path A or B at random at each step. The round collects at your step, and a step that does not clear before then closes that round. Turbo only shortens the pauses. In manual play you still pick every door.
Can I verify a round I have already played?
Yes. Each round exposes a Round ID, a Salt and a Hash, and those three let you confirm the finished round against the fingerprint shown before it started.

Before the first floor

A run starts on the pre-bet screen. You choose one of two risk modes there, Easy or Hard, and the screen prints the maximum multiplier for each: x2031.63 on Easy and x54515.98 on Hard.

The stake is set on the same screen with a minus and plus stepper and four quick chips for 1, 2, 5 and 10. The demo opens at a stake of 2 USD. Its Game limits panel runs from 0.1 to 150 USD a round with payouts of up to 10 000 USD, and the casino lobby shows the range for your own account.

The climb

Each step shows two doors, A and B. You pick one, the agent goes through, and the step either clears or ends the round. A cleared step adds one to the counter, which runs from 0/30 to 30/30.

The multiplier beside the agent rises with every cleared step. On Easy the first five steps pay x1.04, x1.13, x1.24, x1.36 and x1.49.

Early steps add a little and later steps add more. When a step does not clear, the round closes and the next bet starts fresh. The in-game rules state that the result is generated randomly before the round begins and does not depend on the player’s actions, so both doors carry the same weight. After each cleared step the game shows the next pair of doors and waits for you.

The exit that is always there

Withdraw is live from the first step and stays live for the rest of the round.

Decide before the round roughly where you would be content to stop. With a stopping step in mind the button is easy to use, because the decision was made before the multiplier started pulling you forward.

An early exit is a normal way to end a round. If you already know your stopping point, take a run and hold yourself to it.

The boss

The sequence ends after 30 opponents. Clear the last one and the run finishes with the boss fight that the splash screen names as the goal.

The demo is the cheapest place to see it, since a fun balance lets you pass on Withdraw as often as you like.

Reaching the boss takes a full run of cleared steps, which is what makes the fight a proper finale.

Three ways a run tends to go

The short run. You clear a few steps, press Withdraw, and take a small multiplier.

The long run. You pass on Withdraw step after step until the counter reaches 30/30 and the boss appears.

The run that ends early. A step does not clear and the round closes. The fairness check is there for every closed round.

To find out which of the three you tend towards, play a few runs yourself.

Reading a round after it ends

Every completed round leaves you three pieces: a Round ID that names it, a Salt the client held back while you played, and a Hash that was shown before you started. Together they let you confirm that the round you played matches the one that was sealed before it started.

Running the check once shows you how it works for every later round. The fairness page walks the procedure in order.

Auto Play inside a run

Autobet turns a run into a repeatable plan. In the Auto Play window you pick the step at which each round collects and how many rounds to run, and the client then picks the path at random at each step. Stopping Auto Play midway pauses the round at its current step, so you can collect the reward or carry on by hand.

The panels under the stake

Below the stake controls the client keeps three panels. Live lists bets as other players place them, My holds your own bet and withdrawal history, and Top ranks wins by amount and by multiplier over several time ranges. A quick look at My after a run recaps your bet and what you withdrew.

Practising the loop

The demo on this page starts straight away and runs the same sequence on a fun balance. Take the first run slowly, use the second to see how far you want to go, and spend the third on a deliberate early Withdraw.

A live balance runs the same steps with money behind them, and the device pages here cover getting there on whatever screen you use. When the sequence is familiar, start a run for real.
